Water Cooled Liquid Chillers for Industrial Cooling Applications

Friulair designs and manufactures water cooled liquid chillers engineered to provide precise and reliable temperature control for demanding industrial applications. Designed for continuous operation and high-efficiency performance, Friulair water cooled liquid chillers solutions are ideal for environments where water availability allows superior heat dissipation and stable operating conditions.

What Are Water Cooled Liquid Chillers and How They Work?

Water cooled liquid chillers are a highly efficient refrigeration system commonly used in industrial and commercial applications to cool process fluids, spaces, or equipment. Unlike air cooled liquid chillers, they rely on water and a cooling tower to reject heat, making them ideal for high-capacity cooling and environments where efficiency is a priority.

Compared to air cooled liquid chillers, water cooled liquid chillers systems are more energy-efficient, particularly in high-capacity applications. The use of a cooling tower reduces the size of the chiller itself, making it easier to fit into mechanical rooms. Furthermore, water cooling is less affected by high ambient temperatures, maintaining efficiency even in warm regions. Water cooled liquid chillerssystems also typically have a longer operational life due to reduced wear and tear from stable operating conditions.

Working Principle of Water Cooled Liquid Chillers

1. Refrigerant Cycle:

  • Heat from the process liquid is absorbed by the refrigerant in the evaporator.
  • The refrigerant vapor is compressed to a high temperature and pressure.
  • Heat is rejected to the condenser water loop in the condenser.
  • The refrigerant is cooled and condensed into a liquid before passing through the expansion valve.

2. Condenser Water Loop:

  • Heated water from the condenser is pumped to the cooling tower.
  • The cooling tower uses air and water evaporation to reject heat to the atmosphere.
  • Cooled water is returned to the condenser to complete the cycle.

Key Features and Advantages of Friulair Water Cooled Liquid Chillers

Compact Design: The compact structure of our water-cooled chillers makes them ideal for installation in small spaces, ensuring easy maneuverability and maintenance.

Energy Efficiency: Friulair water cooled liquid chillers are designed to achieve high energy efficiency through stable thermal exchange conditions and optimized water‑cooled condensers. By operating with constant water temperatures, these systems ensure consistent performance, reduced compressor workload, and lower energy consumption, resulting in reduced operating costs over time.

Thermal Stability and Precision: Our water cooled liquid chillers offer greater thermal stability, maintaining consistent temperatures even under changing environmental conditions.

Redundant Functionality: The modularity of the MWC range ensures uninterrupted cooling, protecting production processes from potential faults.

Thermal Stability and Precision: Our water cooled liquid chillers offer greater thermal stability, maintaining consistent temperatures even under changing environmental conditions.

Industry 4.0 Technology: These water cooled liquid chillers are equipped with electronic controllers featuring an RS485 serial communication port and Modbus RTU protocol, allowing for integration with automation systems and remote control for centralized management. For the MWC range, the controller can easily connect in series to the main panel (EVG option) to optimize modular system performance.

Innovative Software: Each unit is equipped with proprietary software tailored to meet specific application requirements. For the TGR chiller range, Friulair has developed an internal control logic that ensures maximum unit reliability.

Water cooled liquid chillers are preferred in hot climates as their efficiency is unaffected by high external air temperatures, unlike air cooled liquid chillers.

Our Range of Water Cooled Liquid Chillers

MWC

The MWC is a modular water cooled liquid chiller with scroll compressors and brazed plate heat exchangers. The range includes 7 models with cooling capacities from 21 to 115 kW and the option to connect up to five units in parallel for a total cooling capacity of 575 kW. With its modular design, the MWC chiller meets current and future needs by adding modules as required.

TGR

The TGR water-cooled thermochiller range with integrated free cooling comprises 6 models ranging from 8 to 60 kW. Designed as an eco-friendly solution for injection molding, the TGR thermochiller ensures precise temperature control for molds and optimizes the cooling cycle time. The TGR models use environmentally friendly R513A refrigerant and are designed with integrated free cooling for maximum energy savings.
